Your eyes: the ring is where you are looking. Keep it on the light on the horizon. The boat heaves, the wind shoves your gaze, lightning blinds you and whispers of doubt drift across the light. While your eyes are on the light your faith fills and you stride fast. Look away and you start to sink. Doubts: hold your gaze on a whisper for a moment to blow it away. Breakers: leap them with Space (or ↑, W, right mouse). You can't leap when you have sunk to your waist. Mouse: move to look. Keyboard only:IJKL move your eyes. Phone: drag anywhere to move your eyes like a trackpad; tap LEAP with your other thumb.
Go all the way under and a hand reaches down to lift you. It costs you time, not the race.
